All-Comers Meets
Meet Information:
The sixteenth season of the Bainbridge Summer All-Comers Track Meet began on Monday, July 5 at the Bainbridge High School track.
The meets continue every Monday through August 30. Start time is 6:15 PM and there is no admission charge.
For the first time we’ve had a hurdle event. The barriers are “step hurdles,” a foot high and eighteen inches wide.
They’ve proven to be a huge hit! Last Monday (July 26) I had one entrant in the open heat. I asked if anyone else wanted to enter. Within moments dozens of youngsters — all of whom had already competed in the event — converged at the starting line. They all wanted to run another hurdles race and we were happy to accommodate them.
Other race distances are 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600 meters, as well as 4×100 meter relay. The shorter races are divided into heats according to age and sex. The youngest age group is three and under. There’s also a joggers’ mile, with the winner determined by closeness to his or her predicted time.
Results will be posted here as soon as possible. They will also appear on the Bainbridge Review website.
There is no advance registration, though entrants are asked to fill out peel-off nametags (which we provide) with their first and last names and ages. This makes it easier to coordinate the start of the heats and for the finish line personnel to record the top finishers.
For the fifth year, the meets are sponsored by Bainbridge Self Storage. Their generosity not only funds liability insurance through USA Track & Field but also maintains the tradition of free entry.
