Edgar Allan Poe was almost ignored while he was alive. He spent much of his life in a desperate struggle trying to earn enough money to support himself and his family. His stories and poems show the horror and anguish he almost always felt.

Useful as a brief study of Poe and his works. (School Library Journal)

I am not usually a fan of biographies (personally, I find them boring), but this one was very interesting. It also had a lot of useful information from Poe’s childhood all the way through his career and the later years of his life. This biography is definitely a good book for someone to read if they are interested in writers/poets. (Library Thing)
