The Maryland Colony
Named for Henrietta Mary, the wife of King Charles I, the new colony of Maryland was established in 1634 by Lord Baltimore. He wanted Maryland to be a place where all religious faiths could worship in freedom. Since then, Maryland has had a tradition of moderation, of being in the middle.
